SPS

SPS corals are a group of stony corals that are characterized by their small polyps.

Sps stands for Small Polyp Stony corals and describes a wide group of corals. All SPS corals have a stony body and small polyps. Coral colonies are formed by these polyps and each polyp is its own living organism.

SPS corals are usually harder to care for in a reef aquarium due to stricter care requirements.

SPS corals require the supply of consumables such as carbonates (kH), calcium (CA) and magnesium (Mg) in addition to stable water parameters, stronger lighting and flow within the aquarium.

Reef by Adenbrant SPS corals

  • Add many different colors to your aquarium
  • Contribute to a varied environment as they grow in different ways.

Some will grow to cover the rocks they are placed on – encrusting sps. Some will grow and take the form of small trees – branching sps or create spirals/plates – plating sps. Some will do combinations of the mentioned alternatives.

  • They will contribute to creating a natural reef environment growing towards the light, creating hiding places and reduce stress for you animals.
  • They are photosynthetic and produces their own food through the light source provided over the aquarium.
  • Although there is a difference in difficulty between our sps, all are relatively simple and easy to care for.

If you are unsure whether our SPS corals fit in your aquarium, contact us for a specific review of your aquarium and the coral’s specific needs.
